A quiet scottish self catering getaway
Blaemuir Cottage is situated just outside the quiet hamlet of drybridge just outside of the fishing town of buckie on the moray firth coast.
The county of Moray is known as the Scottish Riviera as it gets very little rain and has a warmer and more gentle climate than most other parts of the UK. The north east of scotland has remained largely undiscovered and is extremely beautiful.
There are miles of deserted sandy beaches and rocky coves, pretty fishing villages, forests, mountains and lochs.
The famous Whisky Trail and the Historic Castle Trail will take you on a discovery journey through Moray and Speyside.
Moray is a wildlife lovers paradise. The Moray Firth boosts its own resident dolphin population which can be stopped all year round- you can see them from the beach or take a boat trip out to see them close up. Osprey can be seen from May, fishing for salmon from the at Spey Bay Nature Reserve ( and further down the Spey River) along with hundereds of migrating birds, deer, otters, seals, eagles and whales can also be spotted throughout the year.
If you want a walking holiday in Scotland then the Speyside Way starts close by- it is a well marked trial covering nearly 100 miles through Moray. Cycling is easy from this delightful cottage , the National Cycle Route is signposted, taking you through lovely forests and pretty Moray fishing villages. For the more adventurous, mountain biking routes for all levels of capability are available on the outskirts of Fochabers, a few miles away.
Moray also boosts various Golf Courses, many are just a few minutes drive from the Cottage, Horse riding can be arranged at local Riding Stables and Sea/Loch fishing for trout and salmon can easily be arranged.
The cottage originally formed part of the 'old steading' where the farmer once kept his livestock. The cottage is over 150 years old and still retains its 600mm thick stone walls and original beams. The cottage is the perfect romantic setting to celebrate a special occasion or just to unwind from a busy lifestyle.
